The latest release by local label Night Shield Entertainment brings us one of the better South Dakota hip hop albums of the past couple years, as well as introducing us to the mind of Maniac.
A skilled rhymesmith from Eagle Butte, Maniac’s debut “Nightmerika” hit stores this past Tuesday.
As the album title suggests, Maniac mixes his Sioux heritage into raps. Piano and guitar samples run alongside the mandatory phat beats for some atypical hip-hop soundtracks.
The sound variants, coupled with intelligent out of body rhymes (Maniac even drops a Steve Buscemi reference) makes this one of the best local releases of the year.
