Growing up, I listened to our local radio station, KINI. I grew to believe they'd support all Native Americans out in the world doing something positive, especially local natives.
Being a young listener, I enjoy the variety of music being aired from the BlackLodge Singers to Shania Twain to J-Lo. 96.1 claims to be a radio station of variety music, which is why I'm writing this letter.
After several attempts by me and others to get native hip hop aired on KINI, we were denied with the phrase, "We don't play rap/hip hop music."
Yet, if my mind serves me right, they do play rap/hip hop music such as Ja Rule, Petey Pablo & P. Diddy. If that isn't hip hop or rap, tell me what is.
Lately, KINI aired local talent Skeeter LC and Steve Emery, who have songs that are very uplifting, If KINI can support them and their songs, then why not support local natives and others bringing hip hop?
Natives who have CD's on the market include Indigenous, Lite Foot, War Party and others like Night Shield who is local.
