Night Shield Nominated For Album Of The Year Award

By Joyce Glynn

Gabe Night Shield, a graduate of St. Francis Indian School, has recently been notified that an album bearing his songs has been nominated for an award at the upcoming Native American Music Awards.

Night Shield began performing professionally about five years ago, after he graduated from St. Francis Indian School and college in Seattle, Wash.

Seattle is where he met other artists, who have since given him the encouragement needed to get him where his is now.

In 2001 he released his first album, titled “The Nation.” He has kept on track each year offering his followers another album. “The Hostile Takeover” was released in 2002; the 2003 album was called “The Savage Alliance”.

His most recent, called “Kataztrophik” is the album now being nominated for the Rap / Hip Hop Album Of The Year. This is Night Shield’s first solo album.

Night Shield notes that this latest album has brought forth much publicity for himself and the other artists.

“Last month we sold over 250 CD’s in Japan,” he commented. He credits much of this to his website, www.nightshield.net, “That’s the only way I can think of them finding our music right now,” he added.

At the time, Night Shield still spends a lot of time on the road. Last year he performed in approximately 30 shows throughout the midwestern states and as far west as Washington. In addition, he plans on releasing two new albums this year. He recently signed a new artist, Maniac, who originates from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, to perform with his label.

Gabe will be attending the Native American Music Awards ceremony in Hollywood, Florida on February 10. He will be with other artists who have performed on his albums such as Overflow, Cin’atra and Young Trev.

Night Shield is both surprised yet confident of his accomplishments and award nomination. He is truly a local kid who is on his way to making it big in the world of entertainment.
